Comprising of over 300 nodes and completely made in Substance Designer, this pirate ship stern consists of ornamentations based off curtains, plants, a crown and playful cherubs. My first attempt at an extremely complex material without photos and sculpts and completely procedural. So much that my computer was struggling to render the graph (Designer crashing completely or my display turning black)! The initial design was inspired by the Neptune, a galleon from Roman Polanski's 'Pirates' film. I was also inspired by the amazing work of Jonathan Benainous https://www.artstation.com/jonathan_benainous and thankful for his tutorial on the Substance blog (https://www.substance3d.com/blog/creating-complex-baroque-ceiling-substance-designer-jonathan-benainous) which really helped me learn more about the software and overcome problems I faced.
